How to Actually Ride Everything at Tokyo Disneyland

Tokyo Disneyland runs on a reservation system that most first-time visitors don't find out about until they're standing in a 90-minute line for a ride that didn't need to take that long.
The first thing worth doing after you scan your ticket at the gate is buying Disney Premier Access. It's a paid option, priced around $15 per person, that schedules a specific return time for top headliners like Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast or Baymax's Happy Ride. Once you use one, you can buy another, and after 60 minutes you can buy a second even before using the first. Most guests manage 2 to 3 in a day.
Right behind that is the free Priority Pass system, which covers five attractions and doesn't cost anything beyond the time it takes to claim one. You can grab another pass as soon as you use the one you have, or after 120 minutes, whichever comes first. It's separate from Premier Access and worth stacking with it rather than choosing one over the other.
Not every Priority Pass is equally hard to get. Pooh's Hunny Hunt has the highest demand and usually sells out within 1 to 2 hours of opening. Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek! sells out shortly after. Big Thunder Mountain is typically gone by midday. Haunted Mansion stays available later into the afternoon, and Star Tours is the easiest to secure, often available late in the day. Grabbing that first pass in the right order, starting with the ones that disappear fastest, matters more than most guests realize.
There's a third system worth knowing before you go: the Entry Request lottery for major show like Mickey's Magical Music World. It's free, and it's your one shot, an instant win or loss with no second attempt for that show that day. Worth doing early, since there's no backup plan if it doesn't go your way.
All three systems run at the same time, each with its own rules. That's the part of a Tokyo Disney trip that's hardest to plan from a guidebook and easiest to get wrong without someone who's mapped it out before.
